It draws customers from Bakersfield, Visalia, Fresno, Lancaster, and from further parts of Northern and Southern California. The Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino is one of the top casinos in the San Joaquin Valley of Central California. Tachi Palace was born during the early days of Indian gaming in California, at a time where several Indian tribes challenged the state government and went ahead with gambling in spite of the state’s wishes, and eventually prevailed in the courts. This provided the foundation for Indian gaming not only in California but in the United States as well.
It all started here in 1983 with the building of the Southgate Bingo Palace, a 1,100 seat bingo hall that cost the tribe a million dollars to build. It was such a success that after only 7 months they had paid back the million dollar loan and payments started going out to tribe members.
Just three years later, in 1986, the bingo hall was expanded to become “the most luxurious bingo hall in the state.” This generated millions of dollars a year in profits for the tribe who invested the money in improving their standard of living on their reservation.
In 1994, slot machines were added, making this more like a casino than a bingo hall, and thus the name was changed to the Palace Indian Gaming Center. More slots were added later, in spite of the state’s trying to block them from doing so, and in 2006 the casino underwent a major expansion, where it became renamed Tachi Palace.
The next year, in 2007, a 255 room hotel was added, a 7 story semicircular structure, and it was time for yet another name change, to Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino, which it is presently known as. Plans are in place to eventually expand the hotel further and complete the circle.
The Features of Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino
Although Tachi Palace is both a hotel and casino, it is most famous for its fights, starting in 2006 with their hosting of mixed martial arts fights, including a UFC series which began in 2009 called Tachi Palace Fights.
Tachi Palace has also hosted a number of boxing events, and is particularly well known for its hosting women’s boxing bouts. While they do have concerts here as well from time to time, fights still comprise the majority of the entertainment events here.
The rooms in the hotel are spacious and comfortable, and all the rooms here are smoke free. All offer such niceties as high thread count bedding, 40 inch HD TV’s, wireless internet access, in room dining, complimentary valet parking, and complimentary evening turn down service.

The Pork Chop Hill Buffet is a big hit with guests here and offers much more than pork chops, with over 60 different items on the menu, with a minimum of 6 cooking stations, plus a dessert bar.
The Coyote Grill has won several awards for being the best casino restaurant in the region. In spite of its reputation though, this is more like a family restaurant than a high class dining establishment, and offers a variety of comfort food as well as Asian specialties, and claims to have something for everyone.
If you’re in the mood for hot dogs, tacos, or nachos, Rez Dogs on the Go has it for you. There’s also a 24 hour Pizza Hut Express where you can grab some pizza anytime, and you can grab a coffee and pastry at the Coffee Shop.
There are two lounges here, the Sunset Lounge and the Koy Wae Lounge, which features not only cocktails but 200 slot machines and 13 high definition TV’s.

There are two casinos here, the Casino of the Sun with 80,000 square feet of gaming space, and the more relaxed Casino of the Moon with 60,000.
